Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia

Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia

We need to be conscious of human influence on the environment, because scenic places are slowly turning into landfills. However, there are still many beautiful places to see and one of them is Plitvice Lake National Park in Croatia. It is located halfway between Zadar on the coast and Zagreb the capital city. It became Croatia’s first national park on April 8, 1949, and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List on October 26, 1979.

Croatia’s Most Beautiful Place

The national park is the jewel of Croatia. The main attractions of Plitvice National Park are the 16 lakes that drain into each other in stunning waterfalls. The rest of the park is deep woodlands habited by wolves, deer, boars, bears, and rare bird species.

The highest point at Plitvice National Park is 1,280 meters above sea level, the lowest is at 380 meters, and this makes it perfect for hiking and biking. The Park is open daily all year round and summer days the park is accessible between 7 am and 8 pm. Depending on where you want to start your tour, there are two entrances to the National Park, Gate 1 for the lower lakes, and Gate 2 for the higher lakes.

During summer, Plitvice Lakes National Park is stunning, but there is an influx of tourists. The best time to visit the park is in late summer and early spring. The weather at this time is still warm and sunny but with fewer crowds. During winter, gate 2, the entrance to the higher lakes is closed, though there is still much to do in the lower lakes.
